Riot has recently announced details for the upcoming mid-set TFT update, Neon Nights.

Starting February 16th, the following traits will be retired to leave room for new ones:

  • Academy
  • Imperial
  • Protectors
  • Sisters

With this new update, players will be saying goodbye to some of their favorite units:

  • Garen
  • Graves
  • Katarina
  • Lux
  • Yone
  • Yuumi
  • Samira
  • Sion
  • Twisted Fate
  • Kog’Maw
  • Tristana
  • Trundle
  • Shaco
  • Taric
  • Lissandra
  • Janna
  • Urgot
  • Akali

Although these traits will be missed, the exciting new traits below will be added:

Hextech (2/4/6/8)

Every few seconds the Hexcore pulses with Hextech energy, granting all Hextech units a shield that lasts for a few seconds. Similar to games like Fortnite and Warzone, while the shield is active, their attacks will gain magic damage on hit.

  • Nocturne: Tier 1 Assassin
  • Jarvan IV: Tier 1 Striker
  • Swain: Tier 2 Arcanist
  • Sejuani: Tier 2 Bruiser, Enforcer
  • Lucian: Tier 3 Twinshot
  • Alistar: Tier 4 Colossus
  • Sivir: Tier 4 Striker

Debonair (3/5/7)

When rolling, you will come across special Debonair units that are glowing, called VIPs. When fielded and with Debonair trait active, these VIPs will gain a Debonair bonus, which changes depending on which Debonair is special. For example, if Talon is a VIP, his bleed stacks will deal true damage rather than magic damage. If Leona is a VIP, she will heal herself a small amount for each unit that is targeting her. If Draven is the VIP, he will have infinite attack range and ignore a portion of the target’s armor. Other Debonair units will have bonuses such as extra health or ability power. Only one VIP will be active at a time, so if you do not like the one you are currently running, then sell it and buy a new one from the store.

  • Brand: Tier 1 Arcanist
  • Talon: Tier 2 Assassin
  • Syndra: Tier 2 Scholar
  • Leona: Tier 3 Bodyguard
  • Draven: Tier 4 Challenger
  • Zeri: Tier 5 Sniper

Striker (2/4/6)

Strikers gain attack damage.

  • Jarvan IV: Tier 1 Hextech
  • Rek’Sai: Tier 2 Bruiser, Mutant
  • Gnar: Tier 3 Socialite, Yordle
  • Sivir: Tier 4 Hextech
  • Irelia: Tier 4 Scrap

Rival (1)

Unlike the Sisters trait, you only want to run Jinx or Vi. When Vi is active, but not Jinx, she has reduced mana costs. When Jinx is active, but not Vi, she gains bonus attack speed after scoring a takedown.

  • Vi: Tier 4 Bruiser Enforcer
  • Jinx: Tier 5 Scrap, Twinshot

Aside from traits, some exciting new units will be added to the game including Renata Glasc (Chemtech Scholar), Silco (Mastermind, Scholar), and Zeri (Debonair, Sniper).
